Mr. David E. Ayres of St. Marys, GA died Saturday May 20, 2023, at Jacksonville Nursing and Rehab Center in Jacksonville, FL after a 5-month battle with an infection and Alzheimer’s. Mr. Ayres was born October 1, 1947, in Dennison, OH to the late Carl Ayres and Irene (Ferguson) Helter.

David was a previous member of the Masons Lodge, Elks, and Exchange clubs of Dover, OH and was a member of the Eagles club in St. Mary’s, GA. He served in the army during the Vietnam war and worked in the explosives industries as a blaster from the 1970’s to the 1990’s. David was also an employee of Home Depot in Yulee, FL for 19 years where he retired in January 2023. He also enjoyed woodworking and fishing.

Mr. David E. Ayres is survived by his wife of 53 years, the former Cheryl DeWire, to whom he married on January 11, 1970. From their union they were blessed with two daughters, whom David was also survived by; Heather Blauch (Mike), of Sugarcreek, OH, and Jennifer Downing (Andrew) of Kingsland, GA; Four grandchildren, Chase Downing (Sarahbeth), Caitlyn Downing of Kingsland, GA, Michael Blauch and Marissa Blauch of Sugarcreek OH; One great-grandson, Nash Downing of Kingsland, GA; Half-brother, Bill Helter (Cathy) of Uhrichsville, OH.

In lieu of a public service or memorial, Mr. David E. Ayres will be carrying out his wishes with a cremation.
